NDIS Registered Provider Australia – Pacific Home Care

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

About This Service

Support that puts you in the driver's seat

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is one of the most life-changing supports available through the NDIS. At Pacific Homecare, our SIL services are built around your goals, your routines, and your right to live as independently as possible in a home that truly feels like yours.

Whether you are moving into supported accommodation for the first time, transitioning from a family home, or looking for ongoing daily support, our experienced team is here to help you thrive, not just get by.

SIL is designed for NDIS participants who require a moderate to high level of daily support. It is not about doing things for you; it is about supporting you to do things your way, at your pace, in your space.

What is Supported Independent Living?

SIL is NDIS-funded support delivered in your home to assist with daily tasks you cannot do independently. It covers personal care, household tasks, and social participation always with a focus on building your skills and confidence over time.

Where it's delivered

SIL supports can be delivered in your own home, in shared supported accommodation, or in a new living situation you move into. The location is guided by your needs and your NDIS plan.

When it's available

Depending on your plan, SIL can be provided as 24/7 continuous support, rostered shifts throughout the day, or active overnight care — whatever your safety and daily living requires.

How it's funded

SIL is funded under Core Supports (Assistance with Daily Life) in your NDIS plan. It requires a specific needs assessment and NDIS approval due to its high-cost nature.

Building independence

SIL is not just about assistance it actively supports you to develop skills and confidence. The goal is always to help you do more for yourself over time, not to create dependence.

Eligibility

Who is SIL For?

SIL vs. SDA — What's the Difference?

Understanding the two supports

SIL — Supported Independent Living

Refers to the people and supports the funded workers who assist you in daily living activities. SIL is about the support, not the building.

SDA — Specialist Disability Accommodation

Refers to the physical housing specialist-built or modified homes designed for people with extreme functional impairment. SDA and SIL are separate NDIS supports and can be used together.

Why Pacific Homecare

What Makes us Different

We are committed to support that is genuinely person-centred — starting with who you are, not what is easiest for us.

01

Matched to you, not just availability

We match you with support workers based on personality, cultural background, language, and shared interests not just whoever is free. The right fit makes all the difference.

02

Trained, skilled, and experienced

All staff are trained in positive behaviour support, manual handling, and person-centred practice. We never place an untrained worker in a role that requires specialist skill.

03

Joined-up with your whole team

We work closely with your support coordinator, allied health professionals, and GP, ensuring your care is holistic, consistent, and well-communicated across every touchpoint.

04

Culturally safe and inclusive

We actively support cultural safety. Multilingual staff are available, and we ensure your cultural identity, values, and preferences are respected in every aspect of your support.

Frequently asked questions

1. How is SIL funded in my NDIS plan?

SIL is funded under Core Supports (Assistance with Daily Life) in your NDIS plan. Because it is a high-cost support, it requires a detailed support needs assessment and specific NDIS approval. Your support coordinator can help you navigate this process or contact our team and we can point you in the right direction.

2. Can I choose who I live with?

Yes. In shared SIL arrangements, Pacific Homecare works to ensure housemate compatibility based on interests, communication styles, cultural background, and support needs. Your input is central to this process we never place people together without consultation.

3. Can SIL support be delivered in my existing home?

Yes. SIL support can be delivered in your existing home, provided it meets safety and suitability requirements. Our team can help assess your current living situation and advise on any modifications or considerations that may be relevant.

4. What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

SIL (Supported Independent Living) refers to the support workers and daily assistance the people who help you. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) refers to the specialised physical housing itself. They are separate NDIS supports and can be used together. Many participants access SIL support in non-SDA housing.

5. Can I change my SIL provider if I am not happy?

Yes. You have the right to change your SIL provider at any time. We are experienced in managing smooth transitions from other providers and will work closely with you and your support coordinator to ensure the changeover is handled carefully and with minimal disruption to your routine.
